Inspired by the unique terroir of the high-altitude vineyards, captivated by the potential of the grape quality in this region and paying homage to the Calchaqui Valley, Desafio was born in 2004. This red blend expresses the true soul of the high desert vineyards.
At elevations 1800 meters above sea level, in the eastern foothills of the Andes Mountains of northwest Argentina, the high altitude temperatures of the Calchaqui Valley are low at night with great exposure to the sun throughout the day. These conditions allow the grapes to mature slowly and grow thicker skins, giving the wine an exceptionally concentrated flavor and deep color. With perfect ripeness of the grapes, this translates into a nice concentration of soft tannins.
With emphasis on the right time of picking, by choosing the three French red varieties – Malbec, Tannat, and Cabernet Sauvignon which arrived to the Calchaqui Valley over two centuries ago – allow for the soul of Desafio to be brought forth.
Production of Desafío is limited to 350 cases per year.
